Nostalgia.

evszefhAs I stood by the the window of the balcony, my nose was pressed to it, my breath frosting the glass around my lips, I saw the winds outside swirling, droplets of water being bullied into submission, lights from the night lamps streaming through the air, making the paths of water borne air above the road, visible.

I yearned to step outside of my house and go play basketball in the rains, with the people below, kids I presumed. Their shrieks of delight floated uptil a dozen or so floors above. Instead I did something better.

I slid open the windows of the balcony, that kept the water borne winds out and was welcomed to winds so cold, no air conditioner could compete, the freshness of ice and spring combined! The hair at the nape of my neck stood in attention, out of excitement.

Back home, whenever it rained, torrentially as it was looking to today, my sister and I would sit at the window sill, legs hanging out into the dark, lightning flashing us time and again, shrieking in delight at every wave of wind that whipped through us.

As the water hit me, wave after wave, I shivered in excitement, and cold, but nonetheless not agreeing to go back inside! After all, the heat of so many days needed more time with the rains to sod off!

Staring up at the skies, blinking at every lightning flash, I felt the water seeping to the roots of my hair, the sides of my neck. I stood with my arms by my side, shaking but not willing to go into the house again. I looked down at my feet after a while. I was soaking wet from the top to bottom! Giggling, rubbing my arms, I slid the balcony windows shut, greeted with warmth in the hall. I’d missed the rains. I missed my sister more now.

Birthdays – most love it, some dread it! Some feel wiser, others feel older. Some ignore it, some party harder than other days. If nothing else, a birthday heralds the announcement of completing yet another year on this wonderful planet! If I was on Mars, I’d currently be just 13! Be a Mercurian and I’d be 156 days old but only 104 years old! Go figure that out! Or you could just ask me in the comments. Plutonians say my first birthday would be in 2240 Earth year. Yeah, yeah I know Pluto isn’t a planet but hello, it still does exist even if as a dwarf planet or whatever it is that scientists want to call it these days, okay?

So coming to the point, I just clocked a good number of years on the Earth and I don’t know if I am wiser or old, or both or none, but I sure did enjoy it! Less than some days but more than most days! It isn’t easy spending your special days away from the family but when you have the loveliest set of people in your life, distances vanish before you even know it! Oh and guess what! I can finally say I celebrated my birthday Harry Potter style! Replete with a wand, broomstick and even the Marauder’s Map.

Love poured in from all quarters, cents and pences but the most creative is right here!

That, ladies and gentlemen, is Justin Trudeau! And that is obviously not sent by Trudeau, but I wish that’d happen! Instead, a friend came up with this to compensate for my constant ranting about Trudeau! Well, the man deserves love for spreading goodness and hope. Also, Elon Musk. Much respect.

Oh but it’s not done yet! The week may be coming to an end, but the love hasn’t. Wishes still keep pouring in and sometimes I wish I could just switch off my cell, because saying so many thank you’s can be a pain after a while. But to think of it, when else do we really get time to connect with so many of our family and friends in a day?

They say what goes around, comes around. ❤

Graciously (older and wiser) Yours!

Oh wait. That’s not the end!

P.S. :

Here’s a checklist for your birthday –

  • DO NOT go and surprise your friends the night before your birthday! You don’t want to ruin the surprise they might be planning for you.
  • DO NOT rush to open the door either! It might be the cake delivery guy!
  • DO keep your power bank handy. Phones don’t get an iota of rest.
  • DO make sure you have your face wash at arm’s distance, lest some one puts cake on your face yet another time.
  • DO NOT keep food items that can be applied on the face lying around. They’re harmful for you.
  • DO NOT wear white to work, unless you can convince your colleagues to keep the cake away. Or unless your colleagues don’t order cakes.
  • DO remember to wish anyone who might share your birth date!
  • DO smile each time someone wishes you! You’re making their day. And mine too. Well, ‘cuz you just followed my checklist, right? 😉

Little Sister.

The Little Sister is going away to study. Time for another blog dedication ❤

2015

The little birdie fluffed her wings,

Pruned the tips, Twitched her tail,

Cleared her voice, sang melodious rings,

Announcing her departure, she was ready to sail!

So now I have the whole bed to me!

But no one to wake up to.

I don’t have to share my clothes.

But I don’t have anyone to borrow from.

I can stay up talking all night long,

But there’s no one in my room I can talk to.

Those crazy, scratchy cat fights,

The late night snacking,

The binge television watching,

The dreamy eyed plannings,

The sessions of motivation,

The patience, the innovation.

I am going to miss it all!

Mary is going to miss her Little Lamb. And I know you’ll miss me too. The 21st century tech will be blessed more than before now!

Go rock it, girl! Make us proud ❤

Graciously Yours!

Brother Sister

She was bawling! He tried asking her what happened. Their mother shushed him.

“This is for you, Mary. You only get to play with this,” the mother said to her crying child.

“What happened, Mom?”

“She wants the train your Daddy bought for you.”

“Oh! I’ll get it for her. Wait.”

“No. She’ll play with her doll. Or else she’ll break both toys by tomorrow!”

“But she’s crying!”

“Let her cry. I’ll get her milk. You go and play with your train. Your friend is waiting for you,” the mother walked away, patting the boy on the head.

Quietly, he went into his room, picked up the train much to his friend’s surprise, and went and gave it to his step-sister.

“There you go!” he said, placing a peck on the three year old’s cheek, who miraculously stopped crying immediately!

Police

“This time we’ll go to the fair together!” he told his son, placing him on his shoulder and walking around in the house looking for his wife.

“Maa! Maa! Papa’s back!” the child shouted excitedly.

“What happened?” asked the mother as she came out hurrying from the bathroom, soap suds on arms and a semi-washed towel in hand!

“We are going to the fair together this time! I got my leave from office,” a smiling husband told his wife.

The next morning, the little kid heard his parents talking. The police force required more personnel. The father’s leave had been cancelled. They didn’t know how to break it to the son.

“Papa, we’ll meet you at the fair. And then you can buy me an ice cream,” the kid said, boldly walking in to the room.

Tears welled up in two pairs of eyes.

Finally, a customer entered. She greeted the person with a bright smile!

“Would you by any chance have change worth Rs. 500?” he asked, extending a note of the same denomination.

Her face fell! She barely had 250 bucks in her cash counter! Her shop was running at a pace slower than a snail’s. She politely turned down his request. Murmuring not so kind words, he left the shop.

Soon enough she heard the dog whimper outside. Taking that as cue for her lunch hour, like everyday she divided her lunch into two equal halves. Keeping her part aside, she went and served the rest to the old street dog lying on her spare ‘WELCOME’ door mat by the side of the shop.

Coupon-ed Love!

Sister  : Oh. My. God.

Me  : What’s wrong?

Sister : You bought me all the things I asked for?

Me : Isn’t that what you wanted?

Sister : I did. But I never thought you would actually do it! I gave you the list expecting you would buy at least a couple of items from the list. That would have been more than enough for me.

Me : So you are not happy about this? I don’t have a return option for most of these you know.

Sister : You are not returning any of my gifts. Not the jeans. Or this top. Or that dress. Don’t even think of the watch!

Me :  So the necklace?

Sister : Not even that.

Me : Then stop complaining and enjoy your gifts!

Sister : Thank you! This must have cost you a bomb! I feel really guilty. I want to make it up to you!

Me : But…

Sister : I am not listening to anything. I know you’re really busy and you always have office or this or that to do! But tomorrow we’re going out for dinner. My treat! Your choice.

I thought of the incident from two weeks ago.

Me : It is my sister’s eighteenth birthday! What do I get for her? And what all do I drop? She has a long list of demands!

Friend : Why do want to drop things out of the list?

Me : Because she has expensive taste and I have limited means!

Friend : Heard of online shipping?

Me : Heard of expensive stuff still being expensive in online shopping? I am just waiting for one of those day sales to come my way! But the good stocks don’t even last long enough for me to get to the shopping cart!

Friend : Those deals can be really painful to deal with! I was up at 7 am the other day huddled in front of the laptop with my mother to buy one of those funky watches for my brother. He had been eyeing it for a while now. First it took us five minutes of wait time to even access the website. And then after we gained access, it was out of stock by the time we managed to locate it on the website! How can so many people be after the same watch at 7 in the morning? It’s hard to believe but I bought him the very same watch at an even lower price the next day!

Me : How did you manage that?

Friend : I came across a website 27coupons.com. They have the most amazing deals for online shopping! I tried their deals for Jabong.com.

Me : Really? And they’re always available?

Friend : Yes. They have deals expiring after a certain time period but they will always have something new on offer. Something new and amazing!

Sister : What are you thinking?

Me : Oh! Nothing!

Sister : Tomorrow night is final then?

Me (speaking) : Yes. I’m fine with it.

Me (thinking) : She doesn’t really need to know I got discounts as high as 60% on international brands and covering products from watches, apparel, jewelry, et al! I’ll tell her about http://www.27coupons.com/stores/jabong.com/. Later.

Graciously Yours!

P.S. : This is a sponsored post but the views expressed are genuine. It is so much easier to utilize these coupons rather than wait for the sales.

I found my Twin Soul!

Me : Found this beautifully worded quote on the internet —
“I would like to be the air that inhabits you for a moment only. I would like to be that unnoticed and that necessary.”

Mr. Sensible : That is so romantic!

Me (Thinking deeply, frowning) : I would say these are subtle words portraying underlying obsession.

Mr. Sensible : Obsession is not the correct word here.

Me : I wouldn’t like to be that important or necessary in anyone’s life. Of course it would be flattering to be that important.
But I would feel suffocated after some time and would want to move on.

Me (adding hastily) : I’m sorry to ruin the romance of the words!

Mr. Sensible : (disappointed and angry) Well, you actually did!

Unsure, I sent it to another friend who is in, or we could say, working on a relationship.

Me : Found this beautifully worded quote on the internet —
“I would like to be the air that inhabits you for a moment only. I would like to be that unnoticed and that necessary.”

Twin Soul : Why would I like to be necessary and unnoticed for someone else?

And I’m jumping with joy! I found my twin soul!

PS : Mr. Sensible is so good looking and understanding and charming (& sensible, of course), he would easily find several women wanting to be the air for him!
