Them.

While I sleep, the world around me is awake. Not today though. I am awake too. But only in the body, not in the mind. But then was I ever?

These people, the ones out here – they know something I don’t. They look at me and exchange glances. They stare me down. I look away. But for how long? And where? They are everywhere. They point towards me when I don’t look. I can feel it. Or is it my imagination? They pause while I walk by. I walk faster. Rushing along, not sure where I am headed. The road is straight, lined with concrete on both sides. Trees grow from within the concrete. The people – they’re all moving in the opposite direction. Only I walk towards the horizon, the horizon where the Sun didn’t rise from.

They don’t look at me. They stare through me and yet their gaze is piercing.  I look away too fast. I can’t read their eyes. Is it pity at my ignorance? Anger that I don’t bother? Or is it angst at how I am spending my life? Caution that I want to join their tribe? Or are they curious? Do they not see me as one of them?

I know I am different from them. My necessities are luxuries for them. They might have lesser than me but their smiles reach their eyes. They build a life while I simply redecorate. I have all that I want and more than I could ask for. What do I do with these though? Why are we really living? Or is it death that we await?

Forever?

I’d lie if I said you had me at hello, but once you had my attention, dear fellow, there was no looking back. I waited for you all day long and it was only by the night that you came – in my dreams. I stuttered when I spoke to you, flushed when I spoke of you. I’d be surprised if you even gave any second thoughts to my presence while you were the only presence that persisted in mine. Soon, you walked away out of my life, I flailed at your memories to keep you on my mind until someone else had me at hello. I say love. Others, infatuation.

I ask – is love only meant to be forever?

Graciously Yours!

Was this love?

I had dozens of marigold flowers in my hand, a garland of it actually. What lovers did to a rose, I did to the pretty orange flower. “He loves me, he loves me not,” I uttered, plucking out the petals one by one at first and then bunches of it together until all that was left in my hand was the green stub filled with white broken fragments of the petal base. I ended at “He loves me.” I thought of picking another flower. Instead, I closed my eyes.

When he was in pain, I felt the pangs. He ran against the odds, but I felt breathless. I would be worried about him, but his first words would be “How are you?”. No one said it would be easy, but being by his side made it all so. “Was this love?” I asked of the marigolds. They wouldn’t say.

Thought Flash #6

If marriages are indeed made in heaven, are you telling me God actually went about match making on the basis of caste? Or religion? Or even for that matter on the basis of gender?

Souls, as per last understanding, were gender-less. Caste-less. And religion-less. So how can my soulmate be from the same religion or caste as me?

Shouldn’t arranged marriages and ‘matches are made in heaven’ be mutually exclusive?

Graciously Yours!

P.S. : This post is by no means an attack on your personal beliefs. I’m rather questioning mine.

If only you’d…

I tried to reach out,

But the answers to your questions

I have, I doubt.

I tried to help you

Get up and around in this world of lies,

But do you really wish to?

I waited for you to see me,

The moon waned and waxed,

But all alone you wanted to be.

Days went by,

Turning into months and each time

I see you, I sigh.

You wanted a friend,

That’s all I wanted to be,

But then life happened.

Some day you will

Get your answers from death,

I wish you smiles until!

Liebster Award – awesome questions!

Without offending anyone who has in the recent past nominated me for awards which have not been acknowledged yet, I only accepted this award because the questions that the lady running coffeegrounded’s blog asked are crazy awesome!

Check them out :

  • If you could, would you travel into space?

I most certainly would! Though I am not sure how much help I would be to the ISS people or the ISRO, NASA, ESA scientists!

  • How old were you when you learned to tie your shoes?

Mother says I was three. I believe her.

  • Snow skiing, or horseback riding?

I recently saw some videos which showed what you should do when stuck in an avalanche while snow skiing. The death statistics are alarmingly high. I’d choose horseback riding.

  • Favorite book of all time?

Little Women. Looking for Alaska. Many Lives, Many Masters. And the Harry Potter series. Was I supposed to choose just one book?

  • Name your favorite hobby?

Writing! Hands down winner.

  • If money wasn’t a factor, what would you purchase immediately?

A horse. Why? I just chose to go horse back riding! Duh.

  • Who’s the better cook, you or your significant other?

Well, as of now, I can only hope that my significant other turns out to be a better cook than me!

  • Which do you prefer:  t.v. news broadcast, Internet news, hardcopy newspaper?

The newspaper in hand. Anytime.

  • Would you abolish Daylight Savings time (null to folks in Arizona and Hawaii)?

Like Hawaii and Arizona, India also doesn’t use Daylight Savings time. And you can’t abolish something which doesn’t exist, so no, I wouldn’t.

  • Do you hoard pennies, or leave them in the tray on the counter?

I hoard them until I have more than I can handle! Then, I want to just lose them somewhere!

  • Name your favorite board game.

Snakes and Ladder! Unpredictable, light and such climatic finishes! And you don’t need skills to play that one either. Just roll the die and enjoy the hilarious situations you land up in.

I nominate anyone who finds my questions amusing enough to be answered.

Here they are :

  1. If you could choose one superpower, what would it be and why?
  2. Which is better – Harry Potter the book or Harry Potter the film? If you haven’t experienced either, I am so disappointed!
  3. Which was the last picture you took with your phone?
  4. What’s the colour of your toothbrush?
  5. If you could be a flower, which one would you be?
  6. Polar bear or Penguin?
  7. You just won a free ticket to anywhere on Earth. Where would you go?
  8. Koala bear or Panda?
  9. If you could marry a fictional character, who would it be and why?
  10. What question do you hate to answer?
  11. What’s the answer to answer 10?

Graciously Yours!
