Alone, not lonely.

He wanted to soar,

To places that were beyond,

The reach of others,

The fancies of their minds,

The places no one went to,

Because they would be alone,

And that is what he wanted,

To be alone, not lonely,

Invisible, not blind,

Peaceful, not wanting.

He couldn’t explain,

Words failed him,

But the feeling grew stronger.

Until one day, the parrot decided,

To break free and soar.

The Sun had just risen,

Water bowls were being changed,

The door was left ajar,

The others stared at it,

But no one made a move,

Only he flapped his wings out.

He turned to see, the cage that

Looked smaller from afar,

Their red beaks and green wings,

Becoming dots in the vastness

Of what he saw.

And that was his moment of truth,

When he was invisible, but not blind.

Rescued.

From the distant lands,

Galloping on his horse,

Came the knight of her dreams,

Dusty and tired,

A freshness in the soul,

Heart bewitched, smile dazzling.

Months ago, when they had first met,

A city damsel, she was no match for him,

A guard of the royals,

Splendor befitted him, royalty trusted him,

She a prison woman, rugged hands,

With twinkling eyes and a happy heart.

Today, free of shackles, they stood beside,

Just two people, watching,

The Sun go down, one more time,

As he knelt on his knee and asked,

“Will you rescue me?”

The Caged Freedom.

Staring at the vast blue skies, I sit,
My wings never even opening,
The clouds call me out towards,
To frolick around in the vapours, I sigh.

I wish I was the gazelle,
Leaping about free and unbound,
Instead I am the caged bird of paradise,
To be lavished upon with praises, children and parents’ alike.

They caged me in here,
Led me to believe I was free,
Staring out into the world,
It dawns that is not to be.

I yearned to stir things around,
Called out to my mates the war sound,
But they were pre-occupied,
With tasting what we were told was freedom.

Graciously Yours!

Black and White.

Some say the world is black and white.
Some say the world is grey.

Which is the truth? Which a perspective?

Or is truth itself just a perspective?

To him the world was white and black,
The greys he’d announced as sins,
To empathise with others he’d given up,
Sympathies he wanted abound.

He stared from a distance the lives others lived,
He announced harsh judgements about them,
Little wondering that while he pointed fingers at them,
It said a lot about him.

Always assuming he was on the right,
Pious he thought himself to be,
Faced with the woman who stole for a hungry child,
He failed to pronounce her to be a thief.

Memories of his hard childhood rushed back,
He recalled his mother in the woman,
Ashamed of how cold he himself had become,
He brought the duo back home with him.

The next morning, he found the child asleep,
The woman no longer to be seen,
His world of whites and blacks ripped apart,
The greys in fifty shades stared through at him.

Graciously Yours!

If only you’d…

I tried to reach out,

But the answers to your questions

I have, I doubt.

I tried to help you

Get up and around in this world of lies,

But do you really wish to?

I waited for you to see me,

The moon waned and waxed,

But all alone you wanted to be.

Days went by,

Turning into months and each time

I see you, I sigh.

You wanted a friend,

That’s all I wanted to be,

But then life happened.

Some day you will

Get your answers from death,

I wish you smiles until!

Graciously Yours!

The horror of it.

He stared into nothingness,

Loving the light more than the dark,

Heaving breaths and sweltering palms,

He rubbed his back against the bark.

He saw headlights approaching,

Out came he – dressed as a towering bear,

All he wanted was money,

The realtors wanted the fear.

Graciously Yours!

Abounding Passions.

Abounding Passions.

You made me write when I lost the touch,

You made me smile when my mind was thinking too much,

You brought me closer to the real me,

You made dark the new sexy!

Your soft touch paled my pain,

You were my rainbow in the rain,

We moved away with the time due,

Now and then, I still miss you.

Graciously Yours!

Desires?

Desires?

The rumbling trucks roared along,

The silence of the night drowning it out.

The bodies moved in closer together,

The warmth betwixt they didn’t want to lose out.

The eldest had just laid her head down,

When the youngest started bawling again.

As the cries started waking everyone around,

They looked down upon her with disdain.

They called this city the place of dreams,

Where stories were of rags to riches.

But all she’d done in the past two years was,

Beg and plead on the beaches.

The night was all she knew that was hers,

Her dreams an escape from reality.

Desires were something she learnt not,

It was difficult to even find someone to pity.
